Montgomery, IN — The Town of Montgomery is transforming its downtown with the creation of the Montgomery Main Street Park, a vibrant pocket park designed to revitalize a previously underused gravel lot. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance community spaces and foster civic pride.

The park will feature a colorful mural, green space, shaded seating areas, and a water feature — all aimed at creating a welcoming environment for residents and visitors. The design was developed in collaboration with Indiana University’s Center on Rural Engagement through its Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative, which helped local leaders reimagine the potential of the space.

“This project is about more than beautification,” said Mike Healy, Montgomery Town Council President. “It’s about creating a focal point for our community — a place where people can gather, celebrate, and connect.”

Bloomington-based mural artist Adam Long has been painting the mural on the back of Helena Chemical’s building. His work incorporates iconic imagery that reflects Montgomery’s identity, including two Barr-Reeve Viking mascots, an Amish buggy, and St. Peter’s Catholic Church

Town Council member Doug Meiring added, “We’re hoping this promotes growth and gives our downtown a true gathering space for schools, churches, and civic groups.”
