Washington, Indiana — A beloved downtown landmark is entering a new era as the Indiana Theater welcomes new ownership. Russ and Tonya Jordan, along with their daughter Phoebe, have officially taken over operations of the nearly 100-year-old theater, bringing fresh energy and a strong sense of community to the historic venue.

The Jordan family, longtime residents of the area, returned to Washington after several years in West Virginia. Their decision to purchase the theater came unexpectedly after a conversation with Dusty Davis, the previous owner, who had invested heavily in restoring the building but was seeking someone to take over its day-to-day operations.

“We prayed about it and felt called to take on this opportunity,” said Russ Jordan, who will serve as the managing operator. “We’re not just owners—we’re caretakers of a place that has brought joy to generations in Daviess County.”

Phoebe Jordan, a high school junior, is already stepping into a leadership role. She manages scheduling and film selection through her own LLC, Phoebe’s Feature Films, reflecting the family’s entrepreneurial spirit.

The Indiana Theater reopened with a splash, premiering a Taylor Swift film to enthusiastic crowds. The Jordans plan to keep the theater open seven days a week, expand food options, and make the venue available for private events. They also aim to enhance the downstairs stage with lighting and sound for concerts and comedy shows.

Community leaders are optimistic about the change. Brandy Weiland, Executive Director of Discover Downtown Washington, praised the hands-on approach of the new owners. “The theater is a centerpiece of our downtown. Having owners who are invested in both the business and the community is a huge win,” she said.

The Jordans are planning a 100th anniversary celebration to honor the theater's legacy and future. “We’re excited to be part of the story,” said Russ. “This is about family, community, and creating a space where people can come together.”

The Indiana Theater’s revival is another sign of the growing vibrancy in downtown Washington, and the DCEDC congratulates the Jordan family on their new venture.
