September 17, 2025

Washington, IN — Community leaders, residents, and local officials gathered in downtown Washington yesterday to celebrate the official ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Daviess County Courthouse. The event marked the culmination of a multi-year restoration project aimed at preserving the historic integrity of the courthouse while modernizing its infrastructure for future generations.

The ceremony featured remarks from county commissioners, project architects, and representatives from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. Attendees praised the collaborative effort that brought the project to life, highlighting the importance of maintaining the courthouse as a symbol of civic pride and heritage.

“This courthouse has stood as the heart of our county for over a century, and today we honor both its history and its future” said Commissioner Nathan Gabhart.

Renovations included structural repairs, updated accessibility features, energy-efficient upgrades, and restoration of original architectural details. The project was funded through a combination of county resources and state grants.

Following the ribbon cutting, guests were invited to tour the updated interior and enjoy refreshments.

The courthouse will continue to serve as a vital center for county government and public services, now with improved facilities that reflect the community’s commitment to progress and preservation.
