NASCO begins $1.75 million expansion, expects to add 20 jobs, grow North American market

Specialty company serves utility companies
WASHINGTON, Indiana – NASCO, an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of specialty protective outerwear for electrical utilities, petrochemical and other companies, began a $1.75 million expansion in August, according to Todd Smith, president and CEO. The expansion includes the construction of a new 24,000-square-foot warehouse facility and the remodeling of older facilities into new corporate offices.
Smith noted that the company planned to hire between 12-20 new workers to add to its current local workforce of about 100 professionals. He said that increased demand for the protective outerwear and heavy-duty rain gear in NASCO’s North America service area was driving the expansion.
“NASCO holds a strong brand and reputation among its customers in the United States and Canada,” said Washington Mayor Joe Wellman. “Beginning in 1979 from the ground up, NASCO has developed a continental presence through innovation and performance and has captured a strong market share for their products.”
“We have grown to the point where we have to expand physically to meet the needs of our customers,” said John Richardson, NASCO CFO. “We’ve introduced new products that include an expansion in our ArcWear line that provides utility workers with protection from foul and stormy weather as well as an electric arc flash.”
NASCO products are manufactured to high standards (NASCO is ISO 9001:2015 registered) and the NASCO ArcWear rain protection does not ignite, melt or drip when exposed to a high-energy arch flash and flame hazards.
The company is known for its innovative products and uses a variety of high-end specialty products from Dupont, 3M and other American-based manufacturers.
“Utility lineman and professionals in North America ask for NASCO products by name,” said Ron Arnold, executive director of the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation. “NASCO has built quite a name for themselves in establishing a standard for protective outerwear excellence.”
The $1.75 million expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2018, according to Smith.
